WSM Holds Press Briefing to Officially Announce Launch of Summer R.I.S.E.

On March 23, WSM held a press briefing at Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Headquarters in Rockville to officially announce Summer R.I.S.E. (Real Interesting Summer Experience). We were pleased to be joined by County Executive Isiah Leggett, Councilman Craig Rice, Chief Academic Officer for the Montgomery County Public Schools Maria Navarro, Kaiser Permanente Regional President of the Mid-Atlantic States Kim Horn, and Executive Director of Visarts Alice Nappy.

WSM Receives Grant to Help Address Critical Nursing Shortage

WSM recently received a $150,000 EARN (Employment Advancement Right Now) grant from the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation and will match the funds with an additional $150,000 to enhance the nursing pipeline in Montgomery County.  Montgomery County is home to six major healthcare systems, and this grant will help to address the critical nursing shortage in our County.

WSM Staffing News

We are continuing to build our own workforce talent pipeline. Dave Buonora joined us in early April as Chief of Staff, where he will work on WSM’s overall strategic execution as well as work closely with the staff. Prior to coming to WSM, he was an assistant vice president in workforce development and continuing education at Prince George’s Community College. Dave has a B.A. in Political Science from American University, an M.P.A. with a focus in nonprofit management from George Mason University, and an ED.D. in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University.

At the end of March, we moved and are now located at 1801 Rockville Pike, Suite 320. Our phone number (240-403-4102) remains the same. We are excited to be located with other County-focused partners: Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation and Visit Montgomery. Having the County’s tourism, business growth and talent development organizations housed together under one roof makes good business sense and will enable us to more easily collaborate and serve the needs of businesses, non-profits, and residents of Montgomery County.
