Staff Spotlight: Learn more about the face of business solutions at WSM
Ashante Abubakar, director of business solutions at WorkSource Montgomery, comes with a wide range of information technology, workforce development, and international relations knowledge. In his most recent role, he was the primary college director-manager for workforce training encompassing Prince George’s County and the National Capitol Region as the director of workforce development and continuing education at Prince George’s Community College.
In his current position serving Montgomery County businesses, Ashante provides the connections between industry, educators, students, and workforce staff for training and job placement. His goals are to develop and execute business-led workforce development programs that connect businesses with potential talent – opening doors, building sales pipelines, and generating demand – what he refers to as the “Talent Development Pipeline” based on the business principles of “Supply Chain Management.”
Tell us about your interest in business solutions.
I’ve always had an interest in economic development, an interest in how business and economic development provides real opportunities to people who need them. It is a subset of workforce development. I’ve always enjoyed helping people launch business ideas and land career goals. I especially care to provide real solutions and open doorways to people who are underrepresented like women and minorities.
What are you most excited about accomplishing in your position?
Success in my role would position WorkSource Montgomery in such a way that the Montgomery County business community seeks to engage WSM for solutions to their talent needs; and sees us as their primary go-to talent resource!
