WSM Collaborates with Maryland Tech Connection
We have recently partnered with the Maryland Tech Connection (MTC) with the goal of helping more residents secure employment in the highly skilled, well-paying fields of IT, cybersecurity, and biosciences. MTC is a coalition comprised of nearly 60 companies, workforce development, educational, economic development, and other nonprofit partners.
“Maryland, and the I-270 corridor in particular, has become one of the premier IT, cybersecurity and biotech hubs in the nation, so this partnership is a natural fit with one of our primary goals — connecting qualified professionals with businesses in high-paying career fields,” said WorkSource Montgomery CEO Dr. Ellie Giles.
MTC’s “work and learn” approach helps professionals transfer skill sets and regain entrance to the labor market. The organization works with businesses to offer several train-to-hire options, ensuring businesses are able to gauge the fit of potential candidates and candidates are able to gain hands-on experience in key skills areas within a high-tech field. Nearly 70 percent of individuals who go through the MTC program have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
“Some of the nation’s top employers and talent are located in Montgomery Country, so this program is a win-win for both employers and career seekers,” said WorkSource Montgomery Vice President of Industry Engagement and Job Services Heather Henry.
