“It is our pleasure to host the Summer RISE program again this year. We had some amazing students last year and we look forward to the next group of rising stars.” – Darlene Douglas, Summer RISE 2017 Host
The pieces are falling into place as WorkSource Montgomery plans for Summer RISE 2018! We are excited to once again partner with Montgomery County Public Schools and local businesses to offer a three-week career experience to our high school youth. The career experiences that will be offered to our rising workforce vary from art studios and bio-health labs to veterinary clinics… and everything in between. We want to extend our gratitude to early host registrants for their commitment to the Summer RISE 2018 program including:
A Cat Clinic
Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington
Bethesda Marriott
Clark Construction Group
Community Bridges
Donohoe Construction Company
FiberArt Studio
Jewish Council for the Aging
Montgomery County Fire & Rescue
Montgomery County Police Department
Nuclear Regulatory Commission
Pepco Holdings
Shapiro & Duncan
And many others.
These industries are just a sample of the variety of career fields represented throughout Montgomery County. Despite having over 100 organizations already registered, we need more. We foresee twice the number of students taking advantage of this extraordinary opportunity this summer and thus, twice the number of hosts are needed. We are also missing important industry segments! Exposing our high school students to careers they hadn’t considered is a goal for Summer RISE. If you’re not already a 2018 Summer RISE host, please register by April 13 at www.summer-rise.com.
And if you’re wondering why you should join this effort, consider what Montgomery Park’s Brian Borge had to say about hosting last year: “The RISE students were wonderful. I hope that they got as much out of the experience as they hoped for! It is a great feeling to know that we helped in some small way to mold these young men and women and prepare them for careers in the future.
