WSM Holds Press Briefing to Officially Announce Launch of Summer R.I.S.E.
On March 23, WSM held a press briefing at Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Headquarters in Rockville to officially announce Summer R.I.S.E. (Real Interesting Summer Experience). We were pleased to be joined by County Executive Isiah Leggett, Councilman Craig Rice, Chief Academic Officer for the Montgomery County Public Schools Maria Navarro, Kaiser Permanente Regional President of the Mid-Atlantic States Kim Horn, and Executive Director of Visarts Alice Nappy.
Summer R.I.S.E. is a locally funded initiative in collaboration with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and other partners that will provide rising juniors and seniors in the County with enriching summer career development experiences. Different from a job or an internship, the Summer R.I.S.E. career experience offers experiential learning through career shadowing as well as through student mentoring. In keeping with WorkSource Montgomery’s mission, Summer R.I.S.E. helps ensure we are adequately preparing the next generation for professional success. The Summer R.I.S.E. website has more information and a video highlighting the program.
Over 30 companies have already pledged to host students. Collectively, these businesses have committed to providing 470 student learning opportunities. WSM continues to work hard to recruit more businesses to participate. If your company is interested in participating, please contact Will Jawando at wjawando@worksourcemontgomery.com, or call 240-403-4102.
