Whether you’re taking a gap year from high school or college, a recent graduate, or someone looking to transition into a high-demand field, LYFE provides a paid opportunity to explore various career paths, from healthcare and IT to Biotech. This program is designed to prepare you for either full time employment, support your return to formal education, or help secure your acceptance into an apprenticeship or training program. Program Highlights:

  • 16-week paid work experience

  • Career exploration and job readiness training by experienced career advisors

WHO: Montgomery County Residents age 16-24 currently not enrolled in school/formal education.

WHAT: A paid 16-week work experience program emphasizing career exploration and job readiness training.

WHEN: Cohorts running on a rolling basis, beginning January 2024.

WHERE: Participants will join us at our Wheaton office, with plans for a potential Hybrid model.

Summer RISE is an initiative led by the Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) Department of Partnerships in collaboration with businesses, government agencies, higher education institutions, and nonprofit organizations.

Summer RISE provides students with a career-based opportunity to engage in hands-on learning related to their field of interest. This is a five week/50 hour summer program for rising MCPS juniors and seniors that are in-person, virtual or a combination of the two experiences.

Students will learn:

  • Organizational structures and how an organization functions as a whole
  • Employer expectations in a typical workplace environment
  • Career options, starting salaries, degrees, certifications or experiences required in a specific field
  • Professional and transferable technical skills determined by the business community
  • Technical and professional transferable skills that apply to any job

WSM partners with Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) and Identity, Inc. to offer comprehensive employment and training services to Out-of-School Youth or Young Adults ages 16-24. The goal of these programs is to assist individuals in identifying and achieving their career goals. Services are designed to help meet the workforce needs of those who face barriers to employment.
