When WorkSource Montgomery Programs staff visited Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring in the summer of 2025, they saw firsthand how the Culinary Skills Training Program (CSTP) opened doors for community members interested in food service careers. That visit helped strengthen a growing partnership, and it also helped connect one of our clients, Tehya, with an opportunity that aligned perfectly with her goals.
With a strong interest in building a culinary career, Tehya enrolled in the free CTSP program, where she quickly became a standout participant. She completed the full training curriculum, earned her ServSafe certification with a perfect score, and received her certificate of completion. Graduates of the program also receive a Chromebook to support their continued learning and job search, further setting them up for long‑term success.
As part of her graduation requirements, Tehya began a four‑week externship at Dalia’s Falafel. Her talent and work ethic made an immediate impression. The Program Coordinator, Erica Werber, shared:
“Tehya is currently completing her externship at Dalia’s Falafel… she has been offered a permanent position and has decided to take it! She passed her ServSafe certification with flying colors, receiving a perfect score. We are so incredibly proud of her success; she is truly a pleasure to work with.”
Before her externship even ended, Tehya was offered—and accepted—a full‑time position at Dalia’s Falafel in Bethesda. She is now thriving in her new role, gaining hands‑on experience and building a strong foundation for her culinary career.
Tehya’s success reflects her dedication, the supportive training environment at Shepherd’s Table, and the power of collaborative partnerships that connect residents to meaningful, career‑building opportunities.
