In 2016, Worksource Montgomery participated in the pilot Disability Employment Initiative (DEI) Grant that helped to expand the capacity of the American Job Center by improving education, training, and employment outcomes for individuals with significant disabilities. The DEI Grant concluded in April 2020, but we continue to provide the same services for persons with disabilities who qualify.

Job seekers with a variety of disabilities who reside in Montgomery County and who receive/have:

  • Supplemental Security Income
  • Social Security Disability Insurance, and/or
  • A physical, sensory, mental, cognitive, intellectual, or developmental disability requiring at least one of the following to obtain and maintain competitive integrated employment at or above minimum wage:
    • Significant accommodations,
    • Significant supports, and/or
    • Customization of job responsibilities.

WorkSource Montgomery has trained staff to assist qualified job seekers as they integrate into the full range of services and incentives offered through the American Job Center.

Such services include but are not limited too:

  • Enhanced Case Management
  • Job Search Workshops
  • Linkage to Ticket to Work Assistance/ Benefits Counseling
  • Job Placement Assistance
  • Jaws – (J)ob (A)ccess (W)ith (S)peech is a screen reader, developed for computer users who’s vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse.
  • Kurzweli 3000 – Educational software for someone with a learning disability to assist with reading, comprehension, writing, assignments and test.
  • Zoom Text Magnifier/ Reader – Zoom Text Magnifier / Reader is a fully integrated magnification and reading program tailored for low vision users. Magnifier/ Reader enlarges and enhances everything on the computer, echoes your typing and essential program activity, and automatically reads documents, web pages and email.
  • Dragon Naturally Speaking Premium – Speech recognition software that allows someone to type or access the computer by speaking using a headset with noise cancelling microphone. This is used for someone who has difficulty using a keyboard/mouse or someone who has trouble spelling/writing.
  • Purple P3 – Free online sign-language interpreters available 24/7 for communication. This is used for someone who is deaf or hard of hearing and knows sign of language.
  • Zoom Text Keyboard – A computer keyboard with larger, bolder letters and high contrast colors. It also has keyboard shortcuts that integrate with Zoom text software. This is used for someone with low vision who has trouble seeing letters on a standard keyboard or who uses Zoom Text software.
  • Big Track Trackball Mouse – A large trackball mouse with large, easy to push buttons for clicking. This is used for someone who has a physical disability who has trouble using a standard mouse.
  • Romeo Pro 50 Braille Printer – A printer that produces Braille on paper. This is used for someone who is blind and reads Braille.
  • Epson Perfection 4490 Photo Scanner – A scanner that allows printed pages to be scanned into the computer . This is used for someone who needs to convert printed pages into electronic format for access (low vision, blind, or learning disability.
  • Height Adjustable Table – A table that can be raised or lowered with the push of a button. This is used for someone in a wheelchair who is unable to drive a standard-height table.
