On June 18, WorkSource Montgomery (WSM) proudly partnered with the Xi Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® to lead a timely and impactful presentation titled “Federal Jobs to Fresh Starts: Navigating New Opportunities.”
Held as part of the Chapter’s AKA/D9 Community Resource series, the presentation was designed to support Montgomery County residents—especially federal workers and contractors—who have been affected by recent job losses and transitions within the federal government.
Laura Moreno-Davis, WSM’s Director of Communications, served as the keynote presenter, offering actionable guidance, practical resources, and a dose of encouragement to those navigating career changes. Her presentation walked attendees through available local, state, and federal supports, including job training, unemployment benefits, entrepreneurship tools, and WSM’s own digital tools like the Federal Resource Hub.
“Our mission is to make sure residents know they’re not alone,” said Moreno-Davis. “From virtual job fairs to one-on-one financial counseling, there are programs and partners standing ready to help people land on their feet—and build toward something even stronger.”
WSM highlighted multiple resources, including:
- The Mobilize Montgomery website for streamlined support
- SkillUp Montgomery – free online job training
- Access to CareerCatchers, Montgomery College, the Professional Outplacement Assistance Center, and more
- Specialized services for mental health, housing, and financial empowerment
As a proud workforce development leader in Montgomery County, WSM emphasized the importance of being resource-aware and open to new career possibilities—including transitioning into education, IT, healthcare, or starting a small business.
