Gigs, Labor & Alternative Jobs

January 19 @ 1:15 pm - 3:15 pm

The “side hustle” or “second job” has been around our lives for a long time, but now cautious re-openings and an economy in recovery may provide more opportunities for workers in the Gig Economy. You may be able to share a position or design your own, with flexible shifts and combinations of remote/on-site hours. You may find that employers want to hire more independent contractors, who don’t receive benefits (or coverage by some labor laws). This can be a precariat, scary, unknown labor market – or it can bring you the opened door to a great work-life balance. In this workshop, we will discuss several gig labels and the many Hot Jobs in this economy and provide tips for job seekers.

***All workshops scheduled for our American Job Centers located in Wheaton and Germantown will go on as planned but will now take place online. You can access them via our web calendar. Participants must register on the Maryland Workforce Exchange (MWE). Once registered, you’ll be emailed an invitation with instructions to attend the workshop at the scheduled time.

Programs and initiatives offered by WSM are supported in part by the Employment and Training Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor as part of an award totaling $4,699,403.
